Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper (Cenacolo Vinciano) is widely regarded as one of the greatest works of art ever created. Dating back to the reign of Ludovico il Moro, between 1494 and 1498, this painting depicts Jesus’ final “dinner” with his disciples.
Brief History
Leonardo conducted rigorous research and drew an infinite number of preparatory sketches in order to complete this one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Painting the picture “dry” somewhat on wall of the refectory, Leonardo rejects the customary fresco technique. There is evidence of gold and silver foils, suggesting that the artist went to great lengths to create lifelike figures complete with expensive trimmings. His method and the surrounding conditions both led to the fresco’s eventual decline, prompting a series of repairs after it was first completed.
What is Leonardo Da Vinci’s Last Supper?
The Last Supper by Leonardo da Vinci, one of the most famous paintings in the world, may still be seen where it was first displayed: on a wall in the refectory of the ancient Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Getting there right when it opens at 8:00 am will increase your chances of being successful, but it’s not a guarantee. The €2 reservation charge is waived if you buy your tickets this way, making it the lowest option.
